3 Reasons Why Creative People Don't Live Their Dreams

These are my thoughts on why creative people don't live their dreams:
Dreams are easy, realizing dreams is work.
Dreams are easy to think about and are often an escape from reality. However,
if work is needed to realize that dream, it seizes to be a dream. After all, where would
one go to escape?
Money isn't a motivator.
Inspiration to create is not motivated by money. Matter of fact, money stops the flow
of creativity. When is the last time you created something that was full passion,
something that you enjoy doing, solely for the money?
Getting compensated for your talent is your God given right. The "starving artist" is so outdated. So here are a couple of suggestions I use, to invite money and creativity to co-exist:
Keep tract of your creative hours. I know it seems counter intuitive, but structure is a part of life. This could be writing a play, rehearsing for audition or anything that requires your passion and creativity.
Put a dollar amount on those hours or bill per project, and invoice yourself. This may sound silly to some, however, this is a great way for you to get use to expecting and accepting compensation for your creative endeavors.
Do you want to continuing chasing your dreams or do you want to live them?
Real purpose is not in the dream.
You hear many times of people who have reached heights of fame, fortune and suc-
cess and realize that the money, the fame, the social status and all of the other trap-
ings did not make these people feel like they are living a fulfilling life. Finding purpose
is one of the most important parts of success, however it may not look like the
dream that is in your mind. Are you ready for that? Most people are not. Most
people ignore their true purpose to chase a dream that is not for them. A dream that
has been to fed to them by external outlets.
Hear are a couple of suggestions to assist in trusting your purpose:
Notice what brings you joy. I know that sounds simple, that is because it is. What
part of pursuing your dreams brings you joy? If you are an actor, do you enjoy the
audition process? Do you like meeting and connecting with people, other than to get
an audition or job from them?
Notice what doesn't bring you joy. Yes, I know, most dreams are not filled with fun, laughter and leisure all the time. They are built on commitment, intention and work.
Be mindful and honest about this. Is there a part of the process of realizing your dreams
that you hate? That could be a sign.
Being mindful of what and how you are feeling is one way to move towards goals and dreams that feed your soul and give you motivation to live the purposeful creative life of
of your dreams.

Moment to Moment

So I'm sitting here enjoying my coffee and a spectacular Malibu view, and I started to think...how fortunate it is to have my health, my family, friends.  The privilege to do what I love and then I remembered ..that's what gets me in trouble...Thinking instead of being in the moment and just enjoying.

My career journey could have something to do with this....When I was practicing attorney it was all heady and thinking stuff.  As an actor, it's all about the heart.  Tis the conflict.

Wouldn't it be great to live moment to moment all the time?  I know, I know, we do have to think about things..living, work, career stuff.  But then there are those moments.  Those moments of..wow, I just lost my train of thought.  I guess I was caught up in the moment:)

Take a Breath

So if not now, then when?  When will you have time?  With all the pressures of everyday living,
working, family, or responding quickly to an email.  It can sometimes be overwhelming.

Today is the today to try something new.
Just a breath.  If only for this moment.  After all, this moment is all you really have.  Take this breath.  A breath that is absent of worry, fear or stress.  That's it!  How was that?  I have another challenge for you....take another breath.   Now was that hard? Well before you know it, you're breathing in and out from moment to moment.

Have you noticed when you breathe this way, nothing else matters?  Conflict?  What conflict?
Fear...haven't noticed.   Everything thing is in this moment of breath that you take.

So remember, when you're thinking too much about the future or the past.  Just take a breath.

I thought I'd take a breath to write this.

Namaste.

Anger the Great Motivator!

I know, I know, from my last posting I spoke of anger, negativity and not letting those feelings be my spiritual food.

However, this week I discovered, a little anger in the diet, is actually really healthy.
As part of my energy healing practice, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Chakra healing, I have been stirring and kicking up some anger.  I had no reason to be angry, however my body didn't agree.

What is EFT?
Think of if this way....So for example, you want to start a business, change careers or pursue your artistic passions, however something is stopping you from doing so.  Well, my friend that is trapped energy, energy that is been stored in your body for many years.  So when you release/or move this trapped energy you begin to feel "the shift."  You start to see and hear things differently and ultimately you start to naturally attract and make the changes you want.

So anyway, I  noticed this week, through my EFT practice, I was kicking up some negativity and anger.   I didn't know what to do with it, so I just let it be.  Anger and negativity are a part of life, however I didn't now where it was leading, so I just chose to trust.

Well I'm happy to say anger was my biggest motivator and thus I  accomplished so much this week...collecting on unpaid invoices, attracting and connecting with people of my energetic tribe and daring to set outrageous goals!!

Are you ready to see things differently now?

Take care.

Matters of the Heart

I'm moved to share....Recents events in the news have really emphasized negativity, hate and fear.
So here  I am, working out at the gym, and I'm just bombarded with negative information.  It's on the TV in the workout area, the TV in the locker room.  It's like you can't escape!

I felt myself getting  angry and not knowing where to put it.  It rendered me feeling helpless, a feeling a don't care for.   Then I took a beat...ok, I allowed myself to feel that anger that is permeating in the world, and now I can move forward.

This is just a reminder to be mindful of what kind of energy you are allowing into your life.  What messages are playing in your background?  If they are negative,  are they serving your greater and highest good?

I find opting out of negativity and fear, and opting into love, joy and kindness gives me the power...to continue, to take actions that serve me as well and my fellow man.

This doesn't mean I deny that negativity, fear or hatred exist...I just don't have nourish my body and mind with them.

Peace and blessings

Scrubbing Your Way into Creativity

So I was just about to start writing my blog when I had this overwhelming desire to clean my bathroom.  I thought, I just want to do a little cleaning and then I'd get to my blog, a blog I had no topic for.  So I started with the sink, then the counters, and then mirrors, and that was it!  Before I knew it, I was cleaning everything, walls, , floors, doors, makeup brushes.  You name it, I was cleaning it!

Mind you, I had a deadline to post my blog as well as my on going marketing in my business as an actor and energy coach.  Was I procrastinating?

I didn't start out to do deep cleaning, but it overtook me and 2 hours later, low and behold I have a beautiful, clean bathroom.  I had candles I purchased months ago still sitting in the bags on the shelf. They now have a home.

So I wasn't procrastinating after all. Sometimes cleaning can be a form of self love, and a way to release stuck energy....to create a topic for your blog:) Imagine just being joyful in the moment of giving your best to a task such as cleaning your bathroom.

I wonder if one took such diligence, care and joy in other areas of one's life, what the result would be?

Try it sometimes. If anything you'll, have clean space to enjoy.  Creativity is right around the corner.

Being a Starving Artist Does the World No Good

These are my thoughts on why creative, brilliant people stay stuck in the "Starving Artist" paradigm:

  • Dreams are easy, materializing and monetizing is work.  Dreams of living as the true artist you are meant to be are often an escape from your reality. If work is needed to realize that dream, it seizes to be a dream.  After all, where would one go to escape?
  • Money isn't a motivator.  Inspiration to create is not motivated by money.  Matter of fact, I find that when I think about needing money in exchange for my creative endeavors, I tend to feel stuck!  After all, when is the last time you created something that was full of passion and inspiration solely for the money?
Receiving compensation for your talent, however, is your God given right.  "The "starving artist" thing is true only if you believe it's real for you.  I remember it was real for me.  I believed that I had to take a low paying service job because that was the only way of  "paying your dues" and that was the way it worked.  There I was, a practicing attorney, fearing and dreading that I didn't have the necessary skills to be a waitress or administrative assistant.  I can laugh now, but then, it was real to me.

Here are a couple of suggestions I use, to invite money and creativity to co-exist:

  • Keep tract of your creative hours.  I know it seems counter intuitive, but structure is a part of life.  This could be writing a play, rehearsing for an audition or anything that requires your passion and creativity.
  • Put a dollar amount on those hours or bill per project, and then invoice your ideal client..No, don't send it just yet. This may sound silly to some, however this is a great way for you to get use to expecting and accepting compensation for your creative endeavors.
Yes you can fill your soul, contribute to the world and be compensated.

Repeat after me "I am a well nourished artist."
